USC ESPORTS WRAP-UP #21
By: Richard Wang
Heya USC Games, and welcome back to another Esports wrap-up. Today, we have a quick summary of our teams’ recent activities and matches.
Marvel Rivals
Predicted to lose, the USC MR Varsity team brought together a secure ban phase, months of hard work, and brand new hero pools to face off against an old rival: CSULB Gold, only to defy all odds.. This would be an essential match for both teams, a defining moment which could knock one out of contention for playoffs in the NECC Project 1 West Coast division. Pushing through a rough start, the team secured a definitive win (3-1), rising to second place within the division and placing them in a secure spot to qualify for nationals.
League of Legends
Both USC’s Varsity and JV LoL teams scored wins in the first round of CLOL playoffs! Our JV team faced a tough opponent in ASU Dev, but were able to pull off a decisive 3-1 victory. Meanwhile, Varsity faced RBE Team Royals from BYU, whose roster included ex-LCS pro player Young as their mid laner. Thanks to Jin ke si-typical carry performances, GJKINGS' map control and some impressive tenacity from Mbitious, they were able to walk away with a hard-earned 3-2 win. To round off the weekend, some members of the team went to LCS Lock-In Finals, where we had a blast cheering on our favorite teams and participating in the tailgate. The playoffs matches will only get harder from here, but the team is confident they’ll have what it takes to go far.
Rocket League
The Rocket League team also went against the University of New Haven Chargers, landing a decisive 4-0 victory!
