With October coming to a close, USC Esports’ teams have been busy at work. This past month, USC Valorant hosted their very own Coliseum Cup, League of Legends participated in a LAN, and Rocket League finished fourth at Long Beach City College’s Grim Cup.
LBCC’s Grim Cup is an annual LAN showcase where high school teams get the opportunity to compete against collegiate teams. Sixteen teams in total participated, including eight high school teams and eight collegiate teams.
“The whole purpose of the tournament is to provide high school teams the opportunity to play against collegiate competition and to have fun,” Juan Morales-Lopez, the manager of USC Rocket League, tells me.
This was the first time USC participated in the Grim Cup. Ending their group stage undefeated, they went through playoffs before losing to Cal State Fullerton. “[It was] either because of fatigue [from] playing all day or that they just got better,” Juan says. “We lost the rematch and they went to the finals.”
Coming up in November will be USC Esports E-Conquest vs. UCLA, along with other LAN tournaments to wrap up the fall semester.
